Teachings( subhat) of Maulana Sheikh Nazim in Damascus 1979 -1981:

These teachings (subhat) were presented by Sultan al-Awliya Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani at the Maqam of Sultan al-Awliya Grandshaykh Abdullah al-Fa'iz ad-Daghestani in Damascus for a little group of mureeds and recorded between 1979 and 1981. Sheikh Hassan ( from Germany) and his wife Hajja Karima were present and kept the recordings on audio cassettes ( more than 20 hours ). Sometimes is the recording quality ( nearly 30 years ago) not so good but the teachings are of great wisdom. Sheikh Hassan described these suhbats* as the " fundament of a house" ..." a “Baustein” or cornerstone of the house of our Heart, the foundation of the Naqshbandi Sufi Way or Deen**…” and it is the source of many books which were compounded later .

*suHbat:companionship : a technical sufi term, meaning spiritual blessing and transformation received by being in the company, and hearing the inspired words, of a spiritual master. This is also an expression of a frequent teaching of Rumi's: that a person takes on the (good or bad) qualities of those whose company is shared.

**Deen:is composed of the three fundamentals mentioned in the hadith: Islam, or external compliance with what Allah asks of us; Iman, or the belief in the unseen that the prophets have informed us of; and Ihsan, or to worship Allah as though one sees Him."

- This discourses are “ Mercy Oceans” ,… as Maulana Sheikh Nazim said:”These topics are Oceans. When you melt, dissolving in the Unity Ocean of Allah Almighty then you may understand the meaning of “Fani-Fillah” (Annihilation in Allah). When you abandon your position as a being in existence, when you become as a drop of rain falling from the sky and are immersed, united in that Ocean of Divine Unity, then no one can ask where that drop has gone : the drop became an Ocean.

As long as the drop is falling, it continues to say: “I am something”, but when it reaches that Ocean, it looks and says: “Where am I? I am finished. I am with Him. I am here, but not here; only He is here, but I am now with Him. I am in His Ocean. I feel this, but no more can it be said that I am a drop: this drop has become an Ocean … Mercy Oceans":

- Mawlana Shaykh Nazim said, "These are secrets that have been given to the hearts of the Naqshbandi Saints." He continues the story thus: "Then the Prophet said to Abu Bakr, 'There was no need to stop in this cave, except that a significant event will happen here. The Light of the root of the spiritual Tree which is going to spread over all humanity, the Light coming directly from the Divine Presence, will appear here. Allah has ordered me to transmit it to you and to all the Naqshbandi Sufi followers….. "Anyone who accepts initiation from us or attends our Dhikr must know that he was in the cave at that blessed time, in the Presence of the Prophet , and that he received all of these secrets then. These secrets have been transmitted to us from the masters of the Golden Chain, through Abu Bakr as-Siddiq."
